I had a very strange and unusual dream the other night. I had spent pretty much the entire day processing more of the past life I had as a British soldier in World War II. Most of what I was dealing with had to do with being at the Battle of Dunkirk in June of 1940. It was a massive evacuation of Allied Forces in France after the Germans had basically surrounded them.
On the surface, the dream seems to be about a completely different situation, but in fact it actually deals with the underlying issue, which is massive fear and intimidation, which I believe I developed largely from my experience at Dunkirk.
In my dream, first I gave my best camera to an ex-neighbor I knew in my present life. This guy was basically up to no good and I was very intimidated by him. The camera I gave him was a very nice 35mm SLR I’ve had for over a year.
In the next part of the dream, I was walking down the street in the city. When I looked up I saw a gang walking towards me. I thought they were going to beat me up. All of a sudden I jumped up about 10 feet in the air and flew over them, just like in the kung-fu movies. It was totally awesome. I felt an enormous sense of freedom in doing that.
In the last part of the dream, I was with this neighbor again. Now he was standing in front of me. I jumped up suddenly and grabbed him by the neck and said “I don’t mean to hurt you but YOUR’E REALLY IN MY WAY!” as I threw him down on the ground. That was the end of the dream.
I talked to Kat, one of Foretell’s psychics about my dream. I wondered if it was connected to my past life in Dunkirk. I had no idea until then how much my experience in Dunkirk had affected me, even in my present life. Kat said yes, that I had a lot of fear from Dunkirk. That’s when I realized I probably had a great deal of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) from that experience.
This might sound strange, but there is something else that I think has helped me get through this past life a bit faster. February 13th marked 20 years for me being a Buddhist. That’s a long time and I guess at times I wondered how much I have changed as a result.
In addition to the things I was taught by various teachers I have studied both the Heart Sutra and the Diamond Sutra on my own. These are two key teachings from the Buddha. Since I had studied the Heart Sutra in a previous life, I wasn’t so concerned with it as with the Diamond Sutra.
The Diamond Sutra is quite unusual. In it the Buddha makes some very amazing statements about its power. When I first read it I thought it would be worth trying to learn, even if it took my entire life to do so. In all, I’ve probably studied the Diamond Sutra for about 20 years. In the last few months however, I have felt different when practicing the Diamond Sutra, so I probably have made some progress in understanding it. This is something that Kat has confirmed for me.
I believe that my work with the Diamond Sutra has helped me a great deal in clearing this particular past life involving Dunkirk. Why? Because when I told Kat about my dream I asked her whether this dream indicated that I was becoming free from fear, and in particular the fear I had from being at Dunkirk. She said yes to both questions.
There are places in the Buddhist teachings where they talk about practitioners becoming free of fear. Again, you read these things but you never actually think this will happen to you. Could it be?
Kat also said that she believed that I had no more past lives left to process. She said that any past life memories that came up from now on would only be for “fine tuning.”
I believe Kat is correct. Only time will tell for certain, but I’m probably not going to wait too long before I actually test this out. If I am actually done with my past lives, that would be a huge achievement. It’s something I have wanted for a long time, but not something I ever thought I would actually achieve. It would feel strange, actually. But the real question is, what happens next?
