Today is the first day of Chinese New Year, a celebration that is possibly the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays which lasts 15 days.

This tradition is considered a spring festival, despite the fact that those in America will be celebrating it during the winter months; it takes place after the second new moon from the winter solstice. It’s a time to reunite with family and celebrate the passing year, along with the year to come.

This year is the year of the Dragon, this year is the water Dragon to be specific. New Year’s is a time for rebirth and renewal. Families who celebrate this holiday will often clean their houses to sweep away bad fortunes and welcome happiness, luck and wealth.

On the second day family members gather together to visit and have a feast, a portion of which is saved for later, this is to encourage there always being an over-abundance year to year.

Many more traditions are associated with this holiday, the beautiful paper lanterns, and dragons dancing in celebration. Why not try celebrating with your family this year?

  1. I’d have to verify with you here. Which isn’t something I usually do! I enjoy studying a put up that will make people think. Also, thanks for allowing me to comment!
