Dog as a totem represents loyalty.
Dogs understand man, his emotions, actions, and reactions better then any other creature on this earth. All dogs to the biggest from the smallest are all descendants of the now extinct gray wolf. The various breeds have been developed for specific purposes. Dogs are solders, police men, EMTs, rescue and crisis workers, guards, companions and truly mans best friend. The dog was the first creature to orbit earth.
Dogs have an amazing ability to read man and to anticipate mans desire and needs better then any other creature. Being the little brother of the wolf, dog is extremely intelligent, protective; he does grieve, and reacts to kindness with kindness, anger with anger, love with love. A person who carries dog medicine or finds the dog has entered their life usually serves humanity in one way or another; social worker, police men, guides and best friends to disabled people. They can also be a clown, a comedian, or a counselor.
It is difficult to consider the Dog as a totem; he has always been of service to man. Dog represents loyalty to one self and all around you (family, friends, coworkers) understand what causes human beings to feel bad, sad, or unhappy; and of course what promotes good and loving feeling towards one another. A dogs tolerance of human stupidity is reflected in his devotion to master and family; he is a teacher, a childhood friend and life long giver of love. Dogs do these things for us not because he has to but, dogs actually enjoy doing things for us; we must be grateful.
Loyalty to spouse, to employer, and family is what color us as human beings. Throughout or lives we define relationships of all sorts by loyalty; it is what we seek throughout or lives, and this is what dog teaches us. A relationship with our pets can and is sometimes stronger then relationships with people. All creatures of this earth have a gift to give humanity and in all the holy books of humanity tell us that they are in our charge and we must take proper care of them, they take care of us… we take care of each other.
