Today: The Coyote

Coyote is called the Trickster for a lot of reasons, one of the main reasons is that the Coyote has consistently survived by being one step ahead of man; Coyotes deadliest enemy. The Coyote is an animal of high intelligence.

The Coyote has been one of the, if not the most hunted, or should I say killed and despised creature in the world. He tends to be the greatest, or perceived as, enemy of the rancher. Military strategists will tell you it is never a good idea to attack an enemy in their back yard because they have a great advantage (in nature and also militarily).

Man has built large cities and claimed a great deal of the world and things are growing day to day. The Coyote has taught man about camouflage, strategy, and logic, and his hunting techniques have been studied by many. I suppose that if you were hunted by man for so many generations, being a trickster would be a big advantage. The Coyote tends to be a lot more solitary then the wolf but will hunt in packs when it has advantages.

The Coyote is also the possessor of many magical powers. If the trickster has entered your life as a totem you can be certain that a very important message is coming to you; it could be bad or good but never the less a lesson to you. You see, the coyote or the trickster, will sometimes make life so complicated that he ends up fooling himself. We must remember his logic is based on survival.

The quickest path towards a goal is direct approach; The Coyote is letting an individual know that it is not conducive to a goal to let obstacles stand in your way or to create obstacles and distractions to your desired result.

-Be observant but not paranoid.

-When the time is right socialize and enjoy being close to family and friends; however, do not get distracted.

-Let children play and learn but always be there.

The Coyote does not trick for pleasure, his strategies are based on survival and this allows himself to keep from being tricked. As a creature he does not deserve the negative reputation (cartoons, stories and fairy tales and human propaganda). If it was not for the Coyote, our lands would not be the same; it would be over run by gophers, rabbits, rats and many types of vermin. We have lived together for thousands of years for a reason; it is a part of a bigger plan.
