Let’s face it; sometimes life downright sucks. The perfect relationship we were in turned out to be not-so-perfect, we settle for jobs that we hate that barely pay the bills, our sports teams keep choking…the list goes on. They say bad things come in 3’s but why does it seem lately that the bad things come in 10’s? One good day in exchange for 10 really crappy ones?! Who signed me up for that?

We have to find a way to fight this. We need to have hope. When you think about it, it’s all we really want; hope, a silver lining. We hope that the next relationship we get into will be the with the one we will spend the rest of our lives with. We hope that we will find out how it feels to have a job that you are excited to get up and rush off to every morning. We hope for so many things. Hope powers everything. Right?

Here’s where it gets tricky…How do we keep the hope? Where do we find these silver linings in these scary dark clouds hovering over us? An example for me is one that my late friend Ryan left me with “let it be.” Things happen for a reason. Good and bad. You met the man or woman of your dreams and 3 months into your relationship you realize they are a sociopath? Let it be. Grow from it. There’s a reason they came into your life. Your silver lining can be that you grew and learned the warning signs of a sociopath and now you can take that knowledge with you in future relationships. Or you can choose to focus on all the love you already have around you. Call up some friends you haven’t seen in a while. Let them be your reminder that not all people are, for lack of a better word, sucky.

Hate your job? Well, as bad as you may think it is at least you have a job. Having some sort of schedule will keep you on track and even if you live paycheck to paycheck- minimum wage is better than no wage. Boom: silver lining! If that’s not good enough for you then here’s a bit of hope for you… it’s never too late to follow your dreams. I went to college with a 55 year old woman. She was an inspiration! Your future is up to you.

You have to take every bad experience and make it a learning experience. Don’t over think things. Everyone has to go through their fair share of disappointments, heartbreaks and failures in order to recognize when good things (silver linings) make their way into our lives. You will become wiser and stronger with these disappointments and therefore you will seek out the smallest glimmer of hope in the worst situations.
