Erica: I like to unclutter my clutter. A lot of people like to Spring Clean but I like to Fall Simple. I don’t know if its the clean crisp air or all the great smells outside right now but Autumn is when I like to open all the windows, freshen up the house, clean and simplify. Now is a perfect time to yard sale it, declutter, organize, start that paint project you have been putting off and plant trees and bushes to be ready to bloom in spring. Decluttering your space and doing yard work is great exercise, but its also a way to zen it out, meditate, clear your mind and get in touch with your inner self and nature. I make it a practice that while I’m cutting back bushes, trees and overgrowth in my yard, I like to think and compare it to all the junk I need to cut out of my life and simplify. It feels awesome!

Rocky: One of my favorite quotes about this time of year that has always stuck with me is “Autumn- The time of Harvest. That which Spring brought forth and the Summer matured is now ready for reaping. Plants stretch toward the sky saluting the Sun; plump fruits, the seeds of which sprouted such a short time ago, drop lusciously into the harvesters hands; stalks of grain dance merrily to the rhythm of the singing scythes; the final kernel is placed in storage and looked away against the coming of Winter. Tonight, excitement is in the air. The communal fire is burning brightly as loved ones began to gather for the celebration of one of the highest holidays of the year, a special time of giving thanks for the life-sustaining fruits of Mother Earth. In Love all is cast, The Great Ones are giving praise and are honored, the cakes and wine are shared by all.” Like I said I don’t remember who wrote this but it means more and more to me every year that goes by.

Erin: I’m big on scented candles and making my home smell cozy. This time of year I like to make a simmer pot mix of my own potpourri that’s a mixture of 1 cut up apple, 1 orange peel, 1 tbs vanilla extract, 2 large cinnamon sticks, 1 tbs cloves, and almond extract so it fills up the house with all these delicious fall scents. All you need to do is place all these ingredients into a pot of about 1 1/2 cups of water and let simmer throughout the day. Keep adding a bit of water from time to time to make sure it doesn’t dry out. You can reuse the mix for up to 3 days by storing it in the fridge.
