The New Zodiac?!

With all the recent talk about Orphiuchus you must be thinking “Oh no, a new zodiac! The signs are shifting, but I’ve always felt a connection to my sign, what does this mean?”

Don’t worry, you’re still you no matter what, and further more, you’re still the same astrological sign you’ve always been.

The new proposed dates are as follows:
Capricorn: Jan. 20-Feb. 16, Aquarius: Feb. 16-March 11, Pisces: March 11-April 18, Aries: April 18-May 13, Taurus: May 13-June 21, Gemini: June 21-July 20, Cancer: July 20-Aug. 10, Leo: Aug. 10-Sept. 16, Virgo: Sept. 16-Oct. 30,
Libra: Oct. 30-Nov. 23, Scorpio: Nov. 23-29, Orphiuchus: Nov. 29-Dec. 17,
Sagittarius: Dec. 17-Jan. 20.

Don’t have an identity crisis yet, because even though Orphiuchus has been around since pre-Babylonia, it hasn’t been considered a part of the standard eastern zodiac since then.

Astrology hasn’t recognized this constellation as a part of the zodiac since before the Babylonians adjusted the zodiac to fall within the various seasons. Libra was not even added until the time of Julius Caesar.

Regardless of new (or in this case, old and abandoned) constellations, they are merely the markers that move through the sky and help us to make the calculations and predictions made.

“Astrology is geocentric,” astrologer Jeff Jawer told CNN. “It relates life on Earth to the Earth’s environment, and seasons are the most dramatic effect, which is why we use the tropical zodiac.”

The signs we go by in the eastern hemisphere are based on the Ptolemaic tropical zodiac and uses the precession of the equinoxes and solstices, which have become the 4 main points of the zodiac, which determine the signs. The Constellations aid in the location of the signs of the zodiac, which are constant in to the equinox point.

The new sign of Orphiuchus is therefore not relevant to the tropical zodiac, the standard by which those who follow astrology in the east use.
